18:12 17May10 -Zinc mkt has 157,000 T surplus in Jan-Mar'10-ILZSG
    LONDON, May 17 (Reuters) - The global zinc market was in
surplus by 157,000 tonnes in the first quarter of the year, the
Lisbon-based International Lead and Zinc Study Group's (ILZSG)
latest monthly bulletin showed on Monday.
    Global refined zinc use was 2.892 million tonnes compared
with 2.333 million in January-March 2009.
    World refined zinc output rose to 3.049 million tonnes from
2.560 million tonnes a year earlier.

    Additional data from ILZSG showed March producer stocks fell
to 322,000 tonnes from 329,000 tonnes in February. At end-'09
they were 317,000 tonnes.
    Commercial stocks comprise western producers, consumers
(reported and estimated), merchants and London Metal Exchange.
